Course Description

Preliminary Course [Board Developed] 2 units HSC Course [Board Developed] 2 units

The Preliminary course in Geography seeks to expand on the students prior learning from the Mandatory courses in Years 7 – 10. It again presents a healthy combination of both physical and human geography and seeks to let the students explore the wider world in far greater detail. It aims to teach the students content via methodologies of research and investigation whilst also refining their written and analytical skills.

The Senior Geography Project also takes place within the Preliminary Course and involves a rigorous program of research based on a geographical issue that is relevant to the student’s interests. The Senior course enables students to understand and appreciate different viewpoints about the world they live in via three in depth and relevant units. Each unit in the Senior Course is dynamic and requires a current understanding of the big issues happening in the world of today.

Throughout the HSC Course, the students are mandated to conduct 10 hours of fieldwork. This will be done via a range of excursions to places such as Minnamurra rainforest and river catchment, Barangaroo, the Hunter Valley and the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics of Far North Queensland.
