Media in Practice

Subject Description

This course will be lead by staff from the Economics Department, with involvement from teachers across disciplines.

There are reasons why things are called current affairs. Politics, business, sport and society change, and the issues we are interested in change too.

This course puts you at the centre in 2018, giving you a chance to explore issues that are important to you and present your informed opinion on them through video, social media, and the web.  The class will learn about and report on current issues through a range of media: developing a blog, producing video content, publishing a journal, and podcasting for an audience within and outside the school.  You will develop an understanding of social media, and engage in discussion through a range of channels.

The issues that will studied will change depending on 2018’s news cycle – the topics will change as the world around us changes However you will be learning and using core media, journalism, presentation and management skills over the course of the year.
