About

The 8th Biennial Literature Festival will feature many special guests: authors, poets, illustrators, performers and newsmakers.

Literature Festival History

Newington College hosted its first Literature Festival in 2001, to promote a love of reading within the school and the wider community, and to help school-aged children discover a world of new stories and adventure through the written word.

Community Involvement

In 2017 we will be continuing the sessions for schools in the area. Already we have had an enthusiastic response and look forward to welcoming our neighbours to take part in the festivities. This year's Community Speaker is the renowned Australian young adult and children's fiction writer, Jack Heath. Already we have had an enthusiastic response and look forward to welcoming our neighbours to take part in the festivities. Parents are also most welcome to attend this session.

Author Workshops

Through their English classes the boys will have the opportunity to discuss and familiarise themselves with the work of the presenters they will be seeing. Most of the students in Years 7–10 will be studying the novel of one of the presenters who will be attending the Festival and will have the opportunity of attending workshops with the author.

Room to Read

In conjunction with the Literature Festival the Newington College community will have the opportunity to give the gift of education and literacy to children in third world countries by raising funds for the Room to Read, a charitable organisation.
