Meet the Mentor

Getting to know the mentors is a vital part of the Year 7 Transition program. Meet the Year 7 Mentors for 2017 below.

Mr James Battaglia

Subjects: Year 7-10 Science and Senior Chemistry, both HSC and IB.

Co-curricular Activities: Rugby, Da Vinci Decathlon and Science Club.

Hobbies: Cooking, travelling and playing touch football.

Something most people wouldn’t know about me: I am a tragic Chicago Bears and Gold Coast Titans fan.

Mr Craig Fitzsimmons

Subjects: Science and Senior Physics. 2016 will be my sixth year as a Year 7 Mentor.

Co-curricular Activities: Tennis.

Hobbies: Travel, trains, driving, reading, walking, conversation (and lively debate!), swimming and just trying to stay fit.

Ms Katie Goldsmith

Subjects: Year 7 – 12 Geography and French including HSC and IB

Co-curricular Activities: Debating.

Hobbies: Skiing, travelling, reading National Geographic, drinking coffee, walking our Hungarian Vizsla puppy, and playing tennis.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I am obsessed with pizza. My husband and I love Neapolitan style pizza and we dragged my non-seasoned traveller father through the streets of Naples just to eat the perfect Margherita with fresh buffalo cheese!

Ms Genevieve Hayes

Subjects: Mathematics for all levels from Year 7-12, including HSC and IB.

Co-curricular Activities: I am the manager and coach of Swim Club.

Hobbies: I love to travel. I spent last year working at the Australian International School in Malaysia and spent my holidays travelling around most of South East Asia.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I flew a plane before I drove a car.

Mrs Jessie Lawson

Subjects / Year Levels: Year 8 Language Arts, Year 9 Work Education and Year 7 History and Geography.

Co-curricular Activities: Winter Football.

Hobbies: Reading, going to the beach and playing sport.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I am a twin.

Mr Mark Scott

Subjects: I teach Year 7 – 12 HSC and IB Music and have been Head of the Music Department since 2004.

Co-curricular Activities: Choir and Symphony Orchestra.

Hobbies: Reading (real books), music (I truly believe it’s the most amazing thing in the world) and supporting the Roosters in the NRL.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I got kicked out of the school choir in Year 5.

Dr Billy Stevenson

Subjects: Year 7 – 12 English 

Co-curricular Activities: Debating.

Hobbies: I love cinema, television, reading and NRL.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I have Goldie Hawn’s autograph!

Mr Craig Seawright

Subjects: Junior Science and HSC and IB Senior Chemistry

Co-curricular activities: Water Polo and Chess.

Hobbies: Reading, travelling (especially to New York  my soul city), snorkelling, facts and figures, lists, collecting things – especially Pokemon.  I am most interested in animals, ecology and conservation. Other interests: movies, HBO TV, SCUBA, baroque art, Art Deco architecture, rocks and minerals, sky scrapers and big cities.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I have a fascination for polished stones and I have climbed eight out of the ten tallest buildings in the world.

Mr Justin Verco

Subjects: Year 7 – 12 Geography – current second in charge of Geography. I also teach Year 7 History.

Co-curricular Activities: I coach First XI Football.

Hobbies: I am a passionate football fan and try to watch as much of it as I can. I’m a big fan of Liverpool FC and have been since I was a boy. Having grown up in Melbourne I am also a big AFL fan and still stubbornly support Carlton, despite their lowly status.

Something most people wouldn’t know about you: I can name all the James Bond films in chronological order (useless but true).
