{"id":1421,"date":"2017-06-23T05:15:38","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T05:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/insites.newington.nsw.edu.au\/academicguide-year10-12\/?page_id=1421"},"modified":"2018-07-31T03:31:46","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T03:31:46","slug":"subject-selection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/insites.newington.nsw.edu.au\/academicguide-year11-12\/subject-selection\/","title":{"rendered":"Subject Selection"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>HSC Subject Selection<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Newington strongly recommends that boys choose at least 13 units.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 Units of English are compulsory.<\/li>\n<li>Consider this list of courses carefully and choose at least 10 units in addition to the compulsory 2 Units for English subjects.<\/li>\n<li>Your choices must add up to\u00a0<strong>at least 12 Units including English<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Classes can only be offered if sufficient numbers permit. At this stage English is offered as 2 Unit or 2 Unit ESL. The final placement of boys into Advanced or Standard English will be made during the course of Year 11, based on assessment marks, options and class marks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only\u00a0<strong>one Category B subject<\/strong>\u00a0can count towards the ATAR, but boys may elect to do two of these subjects.\u00a0<strong>Please note that students who wish to apply for an ATAR must complete at least 8 Units of Category A subjects in Year 12 in order to be eligible.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The subjects you have selected here are a wish list only and not your final selection. There is no guarantee that these subjects will be formed next year. While the school does its utmost to accommodate the interests of each boy, it is not always possible for each student to study all of their initial choices.
