Course Description<\/h2>\n

This course is designed for students who require more differentiation and support in their academic approach to English. The course offers increased levels of conceptual and textual difficulty consistent with the progress of individual student learning. From 2019, this course will allow for students to receive an ATAR.<\/p>\n

HSC Course<\/strong><\/p>\n

This course offers increased levels of conceptual and textual difficulty consistent with the progress of individual student learning. The first topic, Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences, is aimed at deepening student understanding of how texts represent human qualities and emotions associated with, or arising from, a range of human experiences. In subsequent units, students further develop comprehension strategies and improve skills that enable them to express themselves in English confidently, effectively, appropriately and with grammatical accuracy. All topics will be selected to support student needs, interests, abilities, career aspirations and personal circumstances, incorporating a range of texts and topics that enhance student<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>success and engagement.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The Year 11 course commences with the study of the module.<\/span><\/p>\n

Achieving through English: English in education, work and community –\u00a0<\/em>aiming for\u00a0<\/span>students to develop an understanding of, and practical competence in, the use of language that allows access to opportunities in schooling, training and employment. Students further develop comprehension strategies and improve skills that enable them to express themselves in English confidently, effectively, appropriately and with grammatical accuracy. Subsequent topics will be selected to support student needs, interests, abilities, career aspirations and personal circumstances, incorporating a range of texts and topics that enhance student success and engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

Assessment \u2013 HSC course only<\/h2>\n

The final HSC examination for English Studies consists of one paper consisting of four parts<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>reading comprehension\u00a0<\/span>tasks<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences\u00a0<\/span>– a<\/span>\u00a0sustained response based on a prescribed text that has been studied in class<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Elective Module\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>a sustained response (a review, a speech, etc<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • W<\/span>riting skills\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 a writing task in\u00a0<\/span>imaginative, persuasive, informative or reflective<\/span>\u00a0forms of writing<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
