Part of the AAGPS
Newington College is a member of the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools (AAGPS) of NSW, a cooperative of nine, like minded Independent boys’ colleges and schools.
We all believe that games and competition between our schools provide an important part of a balanced education for our boys
The Heads of the AAGPS schools preserve sound educational and social practices in the inter-school games and ask for the co-operation of school communities to ensure that these aims are realised.
The rounds of games in the AAGPS are set for the calendar year in each code for 1sts and 2nds teams’ matches. The remaining games are organised on a term basis and then a weekly basis dependent upon the numbers of teams and venues available at each participating school.
The NSW Combined Independent Schools Sports Council, known as CIS, aims to provide a pathway to state and national level competition in a wide variety of sports for students in the independent sector.
Sport Tours at Newington
Boys who attend Newington have a number of exciting opportunities during their school life to tour and play boys of their age and ability in regional areas, interstate and overseas.
We see sport tours as a great for:
- Building strong relationships with peers
- Learning skills about team accountability
- Experiencing different communities and cultures
- Create life long memories
Tours are available for boys of all ages and skill levels.
Wet or extreme weather conditions can impact training and fixtures. Newington will only cancel training or games when the weather makes play unsafe.
