Mathematics Extension 2 (Year 12 only)

HSC Mathematics

Course Description

The course offers a suitable preparation for study of mathematics at tertiary level, as well as a deeper and more extensive treatment of certain topics than is offered in the other mathematics courses. It provides opportunities to develop strong mathematical manipulative skills and a deep understanding of the fundamental ideas of algebra and calculus, as well as an awareness of mathematics as an activity with its own intrinsic value, involving invention, intuition and exploration. The course provides a basis for progression to further study in mathematics or related disciplines where mathematics plays a vital role. Specifically, it provides an appropriate mathematical background for students whose future pathways will be founded in mathematics and its applications in such areas as science, engineering, finance and economics.

All students studying the Mathematics Extension 2 course will sit for an HSC examination in both Extension 2 and in Extension 1.
