Design and Technology is a diverse subject which can incorporate a wide array of technologies depending on the student’s interest. Student’s design and make a product, system or environment of choice. Its subject content is restricted solely one’s level of interest and motivation and accommodates a range of learning styles to support students.

Preliminary course is a foundation in design and communication that is integrated into designing and making plus studying design in a commercial environment, developing skills for the HSC year.

HSC offers students the opportunity to embark on a yearlong project of choice, through research and hands on experimentation and testing students make and validate their design decisions in a portfolio of work to support the product, system and environment. This Major Design Project is an ideal experience that is precursor to what a student would experience I a tertiary environment after school.

It is important to consider when selecting this subject, the following:

The Major Project is self-directed and requires good time management skills and includes a portfolio.

The skills required in the portfolio and project are:

  • Problem finding
  • Primary and secondary research
  • Sketching, rapid prototyping and repeat. Lots of iterating to inform learning
  • Computer aided drafting
  • Manufacturing skills
