Course Description

Prerequisites: 200-300 hours study of the language or equivalent.
Stage 5 French
Exclusions: French Beginners


The Preliminary and HSC courses are designed for students who have already been learning French through to Stage 5 or its equivalent level. The student’s skills in, and knowledge of, French will be developed through listening, speaking, reading and writing tasks associated with a range of texts and text types (such as conversations, speeches, letters and diary entries). The student will also gain an insight into the culture and language of French-speaking communities throughout the world.

Assessment

Preliminary Course 

Internal Assessment
  • Speaking through conversations, discussions and speeches 
  • Listening to aural texts and responding in short answer format 
  • Reading and responding in short answer format 
  • Writing in French applying knowledge of text types studied 

 

HSC course only

Language classes will only be formed if viable numbers exist. Upon reviewing the boys’ initial preferences it may be deemed necessary to offer a particular language in either the HSC program or the IB Diploma Programme but not both. Boys will be notified of any such decision and may wish to review their choices as a consequence. HSC Languages may also be completed via the NSW School of Languages.
