The Preliminary and HSC courses in Latin allow students to explore the ancient Roman culture, thought and literature. Through their studies, students continue to evaluate the influences of Latin on the languages, cultures, literature and traditions of other lands.

Study of a range of extracts of texts in the original Latin and of Latin works in translation. | Students study a prescribed prose and a prescribed verse text by looking at extracts in the original Latin and the work as a whole in translation. Students will focus on:

Language classes will only be formed if viable numbers exist. Upon reviewing the boys’ initial preferences it may be deemed necessary to offer a particular language in either the HSC program or the IB Diploma Programme but not both. Boys will be notified of any such decision and may wish to review their choices as a consequence. HSC Languages may also be completed via the NSW School of Languages.
