Course Description
Preliminary Course [Board Developed] 2 units
HSC Course [Board Developed] 2 units
Prerequisites: The syllabus is designed for those students who have not studied Modern Greek for more than 100 hours and do not speak or hear the language spoken at home. Students are required to complete an eligibility form, including a statutory declaration regarding any prior language experience. Students who are unsure of their eligibility status for this course are advised to speak to the Head of Languages prior to making their subject selection.
Exclusions: Modern Greek Continuers
The Preliminary and HSC courses are designed with the central aim of the course being to develop students’ ability to use Modern Greek for communicative purposes. This involves the acquisition of a listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and the use of these skills in a variety of contexts and for a variety of purposes. The student gains insight into the culture and language of Modern Greek-speaking communities throughout the world.

Language classes will only be formed if viable numbers exist. Modern Greek Beginners may be studied via the NSW School of Languages if insufficient boys elect to study the subject internally.
