An Introduction to Existentialism

Drawing on the work of Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus – as well as twentieth-century literature and art – this session will introduce the major concepts of Existentialism.

Robert Kirkwood lectured in Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies at the University of Edinburgh and is one of the best known Religious Educators in the UK. He has written a series of ground-breaking textbooks which introduce Moral Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion to students of all ages and abilities in the Secondary School.

Books such as Looking for God, Looking for Proof of God, If I Were God I’d say Sorry and more recently Ethical Theory and Philosophy of Religion, are used extensively in schools and colleges in a variety of different countries and have had a major impact on the development of RE in the UK and recently Australia.

He has a wealth of experience as a lecturer and teacher and has spent much of his early teaching career working in inner-city schools in socially deprived areas. He is a speaker who brings to conferences a fresh approach and an ability to provoke, stimulate and stimulate students of all ages and abilities.
