About the CineArts Film Festival

The Newington College Film Festival grew out of the co-curricular subject, CineArts taught at Newington College. CineArts is open to students in Years 9 to 12 and supports all budding filmmakers, screenwriters, actors and editors from concept to screening. We encourage all boys to draw from their wide ranging experiences and interests to produce short films, documentaries, comedies and dramas.

At the end of each year, all CineArts boys are encouraged to enter their final films into the Newington College Film Festival held in Drama Theatre. The aim of the festival is to commend those who have achieved a level of excellence in their film making as well as offer students the opportunity to show their works to a live audience on the big screen.

Increasingly film plays a major role in the study of English, Drama and Visual Arts. It has also become a grassroots form of pastoral care at the College as Senior boys mentor younger boys through their creative projects.

The Newington College Film Festival hopes to share the stories of camaraderie, passion and learning that have blossomed within CineArts with the broader community. We warmly welcome all secondary students and teachers from across the state to submit their work, and join in our celebration of their hard work and brilliance.
