Award Categories and Criteria

Often the filmmaking process is an exercise in teamwork and collaboration. It requires more than one person to script, direct, act, edit and produce a work, and for this reason we have created a number of category awards that commend the artisans in each field.

Award Categories and Submission Criteria

If you wish to submit a work into the Festival, please complete the entry form

Awards in the Following Categories:

  • Best Senior Fiction Film
  • Best Junior Fiction Film
  • Awards in the following (junior or senior fiction film) categories:
  • People’s Choice Award
  • Best Actor
  • Best Scriptwriter
  • Best Sound Design
  • Best Editor
  • Best Cinematographer
  • Best Director

Submission Criteria

  • 6 minutes 30 seconds maximum running time INCLUDING opening and closing credits.
  • Junior Fiction film: 5 minutes 30 seconds maximum running time INCLUDING opening and closing credits.
  • All films must include title, credits and school name.
  • Films must be produced in current calendar year.
  • All music must be acknowledged in the credits.
  • Video requirements: highest resolution, 1080p; 25fps and 1920 x 1080.

Consideration will be given for:

  1. Production value
  2. Narrative storytelling
  3. Originality
  4. Technical execution
