The 9th Biennial LitFest will feature many special guests: authors, poets, illustrators, performers and newsmakers.

LitFest History

Newington College hosted its first LitFest in 2001, to promote a love of reading within the school and the wider community, and to help school-aged children discover a world of new stories and adventure through the written word.

Community Involvement

In 2019 we will be continuing the sessions for schools in the area. Already we have had an enthusiastic response and look forward to welcoming our neighbours to take part in the festivities. This year we will be presenting two Community Events featuring two award-winning authors and performers: Scot Gardner and Sean Choolaburra. Parents are also most welcome to attend this session.

Author Workshops

Through their English classes the boys will have the opportunity to discuss and familiarise themselves with the work of the presenters they will be seeing. Most of the students in Years 7–10 will be studying the novel of one of the presenters who will be attending the Festival and will have the opportunity of attending workshops with the author.

Room to Read

In conjunction with the LitFest the Newington College community will have the opportunity to give the gift of education and literacy to children in third world countries by raising funds for the Room to Read, a charitable organisation.
