Volunteer at Back to Newington Day!

Volunteer

Back to Newington Day (BTND) is fast approaching on Saturday 12 August, where the whole school community will come together to celebrate a day of friendship, flavours from around the world, exciting home sports fixtures and plenty of fun for everyone in the family.

We will have an exciting number of stalls on the day such as delicious food, cake, flower, book and recycled fashion stalls plus cafes, a kindifarm, jumping castles and so much more.

We’re aiming to make Back to Newington Day 2023 the best yet – and we’d like to enlist your help.

We’d love you to:

Raid your shelves and donate your pre-loved books to the second-hand book stall. We are specifically looking for adult, young adult and children’s books – both fiction and non-fiction – less than five years old and in excellent condition. The classics always sell well. Book donations will be gratefully received at the mobile storage box located in the car park adjacent to the main drop off area (Stanmore Road entry) from Tuesday 19 July to Thursday 10 August.

Sift through your wardrobe. We are after donations of new, near to new, and very well cared for fashion items you would give to your best friend. We are accepting men’s and women’s fashion. It doesn’t need to be designer high end, but we will of course never refuse a Gucci or Prada item, if it is on offer! We will most happily accept any reputable fashion label that you are willing to part with. This year we would love to see dresses (casual/formal/winter/summer), skirts, tops, shirts & blouses (silk would be nice), jeans & trousers, coats & jackets, handbags, scarves, shoes & fashion sneakers. If we receive just one item from each of our amazing Newington families, we will have a brilliant offering at BTND. Donations will be gratefully received at the Property Department at Concordia or the Lindfield and Wyvern Offices from Tuesday 19 July to Wednesday 9 August.

Bake for the amazing Black & White Café – we are looking for donations of individual frittatas and quiches, cookies, friands, brownies, muffins, lamingtons, savoury muffins, protein balls, gluten free items and vegan items. Perhaps you have a special sweet treat reflecting your culture – we’d love to be able to offer these alongside a cup of tea or coffee. Please email Megan Wang if you are able to contribute on megarmitage@gmail.com. Baked goods for the café can be dropped at Centenary Hall from 8.00am to 4.00pm on Friday 11 August or directly to the Café in Centenary Hall on the day.

Bake a cake for the famous New Social cake stall. We rely entirely on donations from the College community and the success of the cake stall depends on your generous donations. We would love donations of whole cakes, loaf cakes, fruit cakes, slices and biscuits. Allergy friendly options are also very popular. If you would like some recipe ideas, here our some of our favourites – all the recipes are easy, delicious and have been great sellers in the past.

Watch NewSpaces for more details on how you can order a cake box. We’ll be sending boxes home with your sons the week before Back to Newington Day. Cake boxes will also be available to pick up at the Property Department at Concordia. Baked goods for the Cake stall can be dropped at Centenary Hall from 8.00am to 4.00pm on Friday 11 August or dropped into the stall before 12pm on the day.

To make it a successful day, we need as many parents as possible to please volunteer. Last BTND saw more than 500 parent volunteers contribute. It’s a great way to meet and connect with other Newington families from across our three campuses.

Add your name to the volunteer roster here.

You can volunteer to help at one or many of the stalls listed, for as long as you are able to.

All funds raised from the day will go towards supporting the means-tested scholarship program and strengthening the Newington community through the Wyvern, Lindfield and Stanmore P&F Associations.
